I am writing this after just getting home from the IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC 2025). As usual, it was a great conference. The Georgia World Congress Center was a good venue that was comfortable, plenty of space, and easy to get around. According to preliminary reports, the attendance set a record for an APEC held on the East Coast. I will leave it to others to report on the conference more fully.
One of my main interests in attending APEC was to research the latest in wide-bandgap power semiconductors. As I am principally a dc–dc converter and power supply designer, I was mostly interested in discrete transistors (not diodes) rather than the large modules used in high-power motor drives. I was mainly interested in devices rated up to 1700 V with limited interest in devices rated up to 3300 V.
