Recognizing Outstanding Achievements
2024 Honorees:
Large: PELS Bangalore Chapter
IEEE PELS Bengaluru Chapter got its official approval on 13th March 2017. Inauguration Ceremony was held on 21st May 2017 in The Department of Electrical Engineering at IISC Bangalore. Started with a small strength of about 20 members, the chapter has grown with a membership count of 718 (as on December 2023) and has 8 active student branch chapters. The chapter aims to add more student branch chapters every year.
Located in Bangalore, a hub for technology and innovation in India, the chapter serves as a focal point for professionals, researchers, students, and enthusiasts interested in power electronics. The chapter aims to achieve this through professional development, educational activities, student engagement and industry collaboration. The chapter conducts membership drives twice a year to spread awareness towards the benefits of the society. DLPs and RDLPs are organized at the chapter level and by each SBC. The SBCs organize workshops, seminars, technical contests, and social activities. Regular events are organized featuring experts from academia and industry who share insights on cutting-edge technologies and research findings. Initiatives like student paper contests, design competitions, project expo and mentorship programs aimed at nurturing young talent. The chapter is led by a strong team of dedicated volunteers.
Through its various initiatives, the chapter not only supports the professional growth of its members but also contributes to the advancement of technology that powers modern society.
Medium: Northeast Brazil Section Chapter, PE31/IA34/PEL35
The Joint Chapter PES/IAS/PELS Northeast 1, Bahia Section – R9, was created in December 2001 and started with 14 members. In the beginning, the Chapter was constituted by members from two cities 250 kilometers from each other (Campina Grande in the state of Paraíba and Recife in the state of Pernambuco). Nowadays, the chapter has more than 50 people from four states Paraiba, Pernambuco, Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. The chapter members are from industry and universities. The chapter governators are Camila Gehrke (UFPB), Ana Vitoria Macedo (UFRPE), Nady Rocha (UFPB) and Thiago Rocha (UFRN).
The Joint Chapter PES/IAS/PELS Northeast 1, Northeast Section – R9 plan and organize technical events for three electrical engineering topics: power system, power electronics and industry applications. We can connect specialists from all over the world to give speeches, workshops and more.
Small: Lebanon Joint chapter, IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35
The IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35 joint Chapter of the IEEE Lebanon Section was founded in 2012. The Chapter has grown in number of members and in number of activities. The year 2023 can be characterized as a successful year.
The overview of activities includes 20 technical lectures and 10 between professional and nontechnical events that were organized in different cities in Lebanon, including 3 DLP lectures. Furthermore, we got the IEEE best Lebanese Chapter Award for year 2023. Additionally, it was highly involved in organization of 4 IEEE International conferences: ICABME’23, IMCET, ICM, and ICCA.
The IEEE Lebanese IE13/PE31/CAS04/PEL35 joint chapter has been actively promoting power electronics society and junior engineers (GOLD) as part of our activities. These activities include arranging tours of power engineering companies (DEYE – Lebanon) for undergraduate students, advocating new power engineering courses, workshops and seminars at local universities and promoting closer relationships between the joint chapter and the student chapter.
All meetings were well attended with IEEE members and, perhaps, our prospective future members.
The joint Chapter has worked closely together with other IEEE Section chapters (Robotics, Electromagnetic waves, SIGHT, Computer and communication and young professional) for mutual benefits. This cooperation has resulted in high quality technical, educational, social and professional programs. The joint Chapter maintains engagement to promote IEEE values in several Lebanese universities, mainly American university of Beirut, Lebanese, Lebanese International, Notre Dame, Saint Joseph, Lebanese American, City University, and Beirut Arab universities.
There are plans already in creation to organize the educational visits for students and other interested colleagues. As always the membership will be promoted among students and new members will be encouraged to join in addition to open new student chapters in different Lebanese Universities.
