PELS Day

Celebrate PELS Day with us!

On 20 June 1987, PELS became a full-fledged Society within IEEE. PELS Day honors this event by celebrating every year on 20 June. PELS invites everyone to celebrate by getting together with colleagues for presentations, technical discussions, or simply an evening of networking and socializing.

Look at some of the exciting PELS Day celebrations that happened over the years in the archives below. With the trends towards electrification and renewable energy, there has never been a more exciting time to be a power electronics engineer. If you host a PELS Day event, take a photo of your electrifying experience and submit it to our PELS Day Photo Contest!

Photo Contest

Every June, the PELS Day Committee hosts a photo contest where PELS Chapters, Joint Chapters, and Student Branch Chapters can compete for a prize. Please note: Chapters, Joint Chapters, and Student Branch Chapters are allowed to submit both to this contest and the PELS Day video contest, but are only eligible to be awarded one of the two.

Objective: This contest promotes PELS and its global activities while increasing branding and member engagement.

Sponsor: The IEEE Power Electronics Society, 445 Hoes Lane, Piscataway, New Jersey, 08854, USA

Prize: The PELS Organizational Unit (OU) that the entrant belongs to will be considered a winner and may receive the following depending upon the category (taxes, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner):

  • Grand Prize: USD 500

  • People’s Choice (Second Place): USD 250
  • PELS Day Committee’s Choice: USD 500

An email announcement will be sent to all PELS members to encourage participation. The top photo that receives the most votes will be a winner alongside one selected by the PELS Day Organizing Committee.

Agreement to Official Rules: By participating in this contest, Entrants agree to abide by the terms and conditions thereof as established by Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to alter any of these Official Rules at any time and for any reason. All decisions made by Sponsor concerning the Contest shall be final and at its sole discretion.

Eligibility: The contest is open to IEEE PELS Organizational Unit (Student Branch, Chapter, Affinity Group, Section, etc.) (Entrants). Entrants are subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited by law. Winner understands that delivery of a prize may be void where prohibited by law and agrees that Sponsor shall have no obligation to substitute an alternate prize when so prohibited.

Notification of Potential Prize Winners: The Prize Winners will be notified by e-mail or telephone within 10 days of the selection date. If a Prize Winner does not acknowledge acceptance of the Prize within 10 business days after being notified that he or she is a Prize Winner, another Prize Winner will be chosen using the same procedure specified above.

Intellectual Property: By submitting an Entry, Entrant confirms that they own the rights to the submission and have secured all required permissions. Entrant agrees to hold the Sponsor harmless against any copyright or infringement claims and acknowledges completing the IEEE Photo/Video Release. While Entrant retains full ownership of the Entry, Entrant grants the Sponsor an irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to reproduce, share, and distribute the submission across any media format.

Release, Publicity, and Privacy: By receipt of the Prize, the Prize Winner(s) consents to the use of his or her name, business name, and address by Sponsor for advertising and promotional purposes, including but not limited to on Sponsor’s social media pages, without any additional compensation, except where prohibited. No entries will be returned. All entries become the property of Sponsor. The Prize Winner agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsor and its officers, directors, employees, affiliated companies, agents, successors and assigns from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the contest.

Sponsor assumes no responsibility for the computer system, hardware, software or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human or technical in nature, or for damaged, lost, late, illegible or misdirected entries; technical, hardware, software, electronic or telephone failures of any kind; lost or unavailable network connections; fraudulent, incomplete, garbled or delayed computer transmissions whether caused by Sponsor, the users, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this contest; or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions or downloading, that may limit, delay or prevent an entrant’s ability to participate in the contest.

Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend this contest and award a prize from entries received up to the time of termination or suspension should virus, bugs, or other causes beyond Sponsor’s control, unauthorized human intervention, malfunction, computer problems, phone line or network hardware or software malfunction, which, in the sole opinion of Sponsor, corrupt, compromise or materially affect the administration, fairness, security or proper play of the contest or proper submission of entries. Sponsor is not liable for any loss, injury, or damage caused, whether directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from downloading data or otherwise participating in this contest.

Disputes: ENTRANTS AGREE THAT ANY CLAIMS OR DISPUTES RELATED TO THIS CONTEST OR PRIZES WILL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY THROUGH BINDING ARBITRATION UNDER AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION COMMERCIAL RULES, WITHOUT CLASS ACTIONS. AWARDS ARE STRICTLY LIMITED TO ACTUAL OUT-OF-POCKET ENTRY COSTS, EXCLUDING LEGAL OR ATTORNEY FEES. ENTRANTS WAIVE ALL CLAIMS TO PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. ALL MATTERS CONCERNING THESE OFFICIAL RULES, RIGHTS, AND OBLIGATIONS ARE GOVERNED EXCLUSIVELY BY THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY, WITHOUT REGARD TO CHOICE-OF-LAW PRINCIPLES.
