Empower a Billion Lives is in the midst of its third contest cycle. Initial concept papers and the full proposals have been evaluated by the judges, and their feedback has been shared with the teams. By the time this column is published, the EBL 2025 contestants will be well into their field trials, and perhaps even sharing their results and learnings.
Considering this latest group of teams and looking back on the two previous contests in 2019 and 2023, we can start to identify trends that lay the groundwork for our goal of increasing energy access to the people most in need. It also helps us to see the breadth of ideas that are brewing around the world, in exactly the spirit of experimentation we are trying to encourage.
