We hear so much about AI these days, we are getting trained (like large language models or LLMs) to believe we cannot perform the most basic functions without it. Luckily, AI has not figured out how to eat or drink for me yet, though I must admit my guitar playing can use a whole lot of help. Given the theme of this month’s PEM, I thought it might be prudent to explore just what AI really stands for and the associated implications in both the power and human domains.
At a high level, this analytical commentary looks to break down AI into its “A” and “I” components and explore them independently. Even a child knows AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, but does this pairing of words even make sense? On the surface, one could argue this is a paradox or perhaps even an incredibly honest admission of the Marketing Department.
