Growth Through Service: How Volunteering in PELS Has Shaped My Early Career (Women in Engineering)

Volunteering has been one of the most rewarding and influential parts of my professional journey. While my career path has been rooted in academia and research, my parallel journey as a volunteer with the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) has shaped my professional development in substantial and unexpected ways. It has allowed me to build leadership and communication skills, find mentors and advocates, and create a network of colleagues and friends around the world.

Over the past decade, I have served in many volunteer capacities within PELS, from a student chapter chair to contributing to various committees and technical groups, and eventually to serving on the Administrative Committee (AdCom) for the society. Along the way, I discovered that service not only supports the broader power electronics community, but also provides opportunities for personal and professional growth.
