It has been eight years since Dr. Mutsuo Nakaoka, Prof. Emeritus of Yamaguchi University, Japan, died in January 2018. Here, we recognize his contributions and recognize his journey as a professor of the school’s power electronics laboratory, which he established over thirty years ago.
Dr. Nakaoka was born in January 1941 in Hiroshima, Japan. He started his career as a researcher as an assistant at Kobe University, Japan, in 1971 while receiving Ph.D. degree from Osaka University, Japan, in 1981, and was promoted to an associate professor in 1982, respectively. His activity at Kobe University and around the industry was deeply dedicated to research and development of resonant power converters and highfrequency inverters for industrial applications and home appliances (Figure 1).
