FEPPCON XII: Empowering Sustainable Power Electronics

Geneva,,Switzerland,Skyline,View,Towards,The,Jet,D'eau,Fountain,In

This year the IEEE Power Electronics Society’s (PELS) Strategic Planning Committee had selected the city of Geneva in Switzerland as the site for its biennial “Future of Electronic Power Processing and Conversion” (FEPPCON) workshop, which was the 12th edition. FEPPCON was launched in 1991. A venue which is very close to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) offers an amazing infrastructure. Partly built on power electronics technology, it provided an inspiring environment for the participants (50 from all over the world— see Figure 1). Thus, enabling them to focus on technology forecasting and strategic planning exercises for PELS. As a result of three days of deliberations, it produced inspiring predictions of the key technologies and trends that are likely to be the most relevant during the coming years (2030 and beyond) for the power electronics industry and academia and, thereby, hopefully providing IEEE PELS a strong foundation for defining new initiatives.
