“Are You Crazy?”–Tales of a Cycling Power Electronics Engineer

“Are you crazy?” was a common question I heard for 6 months, not because they found out that I am a Power Electronics Engineer, but because I was biking around Europe, and it wasn’t electric!

It had been a dream for my wife and I for more than 10 years, but there was never the right time to do it. After successful treatment for prostate cancer, it was time to stop putting it off and put work aside for a while. I am fortunate to work for a company that was very supportive of my ambitions.

We passed through 16 countries and biked 11700 km in 196 days. It was an odyssey with surprising highlights, bad weather and disruptions, beautiful scenery, and challenges, both physically and mentally (see Figure 1).
