Paresh Sen Obituary

Paresh Chandra Sen

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Dr. Paresh Chandra Sen (affectionately known as “PC”) on November 22, 2023, in Kingston, Ontario. A distinguished figure in the academic community and Life Fellow of IEEE, he dedicated an impressive 56 years of his life to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston.

Born on June 30, 1938, Dr. Sen was not only an esteemed professor but a pillar of strength and wisdom within his family. Having made Kingston his home since 1967, he witnessed the growth and evolution of the community he cherished.

Paresh is survived by his loving wife, Maya Sen, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories and adventures. Together, they built a foundation of love and support that extended to their three children: Sujit, Priya, and Debu. Paresh found great joy in his role as a father, always imparting valuable lessons and fostering a sense of curiosity and determination in his children.

The Sen family tree further blossomed with the addition of cherished daughter and son-in-laws: Saheli, Ravi, and Trina. Paresh’s devotion to family was evident in the close bonds he nurtured, transcending generations.

As a doting grandfather/dadubhai/tada/gampa, he took great pride in the accomplishments and personalities of his grandchildren: Raine, Kian, Shaiden, Rishaan, Sita, and Devin. Whether sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply reveling in their company, he loved the joy that family brought him.

Dr. Sen, known as the “Father of Power Electronics at Queen’s University” is considered a leader, legend, visionary, educator and mentor. He authored two internationally acclaimed text books 1. Principles of Electric Machines and Power Electronics and 2. Thyristor DC Drives. His impact extended beyond the lecture halls of Queen’s University. His legacy lives on not only in the knowledge he imparted to countless students but also in the love and warmth he bestowed upon his family and community.

May his soul rest in peace, and may the memories of his enduring love and wisdom bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to be made to the Vedanta Society. This organization played a pivotal role in Dr. PC Sen’s life, embracing him as a young orphan and shaping him into the remarkable individual he became.
