Recent Advances in High-Frequency Wireless Power Transfer: Driving Circuits and Coupled Resonators

Abstract: (Please note: this webinar is sponsored by PELS TC 9) In this webinar, we will present the major advances in high-frequency wireless power transfer developed at the Sustainable Power Electronics Laboratory at Nanyang Technological University. The presentation will primarily focus on transmitter-side inverter architectures and coupled resonator design techniques for high-frequency wireless power transfer systems. In addition, perspectives on several emerging topics and future developments in high-frequency wireless power transfer will also be discussed toward the end of the webinar.
Dr. Yun Yang received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from The University of Hong Kong in 2017. From 2017 to 2020, he worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the same research group, and from 2020 to 2022, he served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Dr. Yang has received multiple technical awards, including the Outstanding Presentation Award at the IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference in 2016, the Outstanding Reviewer Award of the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics in 2022 and 2024, and the Best Paper Award of the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics in 2023. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 technical papers, including over 50 top-tier journal publications, two of which are recognized as ESI Highly Cited Papers. He has also published one monograph, two book chapters, and holds eight patents. Dr. Yang has been recognized among the world’s top 2% most-cited scientists in the Single-Year category since 2022, as well as in the Whole-Career category in 2025, according to metrics released by Stanford University. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering. His research interests include power electronics, wireless power transfer, battery and energy storage systems, and microgrid technologies.
