Student Competitions
Below are some of the student competitions sponsored by PELS:
ECCE Student Project Demonstrations on Emerging Technology Award Program
Since 2011, ECCE has organized a hardware demonstration event for students to showcase their research outcomes and interact with academia and industry. Topics of interest include all emerging areas of power electronics and related technologies, such as 3-D power electronics integration, emerging power devices and their applications, emerging solutions for a passive component used in power electronics, energy harvesting, high-reliability power electronic components and converters, high-temperature power electronics, ultra-efficient and high-power-density converters and inverters, and wireless power transfer.
Project teams selected for participation will be notified and all members of the selected project teams must register for ECCE in order to participate in the event. Travel grants will be allocated for each participating project team. For the demonstration, each team will be provided a space in the ECCE exhibition hall and will be evaluated by a judging panel comprising of members from the industry and academia. The panel members will select the top three project demonstrations based on originality and creativity, engineering design, value to practical applications, presentation, and audience appeal. The top three student project teams will be recognized with the following:
- First Place: Certificate and a one-time cash award of USD 700
- Second Place: Certificate and a one-time cash award of USD 500
- Third Place: Certificate and a one-time cash award of USD 300
International Future Energy Challenge (IFEC)
The International Future Energy Challenge (IFEC) is an international student competition for innovation, conservation, and effective use of electrical energy.
PELS Ph.D. Thesis Talk Award (P3 Talk)
The IEEE PELS Ph.D. Thesis Talk (P3 Talk) competition showcases Ph.D. projects to both the academia and industry areas of the power electronics community.
