Abstract: The objective of this webinar is to encourage reflection on the new proposals for Smart Power Grids applied to the Brazilian Power System. The idea is to stimulate a discussion to question whether we are really exploring all our potential in terms of generating electricity, especially hydroelectric power. There is a consensus that any form of energy that enriches a country’s energy matrix is very welcome. However, it is essential to observe the needs, opportunities and potential of a country so that the decision to choose an alternative energy matrix has legitimate advantages and benefits for the society of that country. Based on environmental appeal, a series of energy alternatives have been proposed, based on technologies not dominated by Brazil and which, due to our peculiar geopolitical characteristics, do not effectively and efficiently meet our needs, leaving a large part of the Brazilian population on the margins of these energy alternatives. This talk seeks to discuss and reflect on these issues, and show that we still have a significant and little explored hydroelectric energy potential, which will not only generate benefits for our society, but also jobs and wealth for the country.
