The exponential release of greenhouse gases, caused by humans in the last two centuries, has increased the average temperature of the earth in the same proportion, which has resulted in an imminent climate change that seriously threatens the quality of life. in the future. The energy transition towards a post-carbon world is one of the main measures to mitigate or slow down the adverse effects of climate change. For many, the energy transition is an uncomfortable situation, a necessary evil, which will negatively impact certain industrial sectors, our freedoms and even traditions. Can a sustainable economy be developed? Will we be able to travel by plane in 50 more years? Will eating meat be frowned upon? These are questions that are increasingly common today at home, schools, forums, companies and governments. However, an energy transition, like all those that have occurred in the past, are closely linked to technological revolutions that produce profound social and economic changes, and that have generally brought well-being to humanity. Chile is in a privileged situation, due to the resources it has in terms of sustainable energy, not only to contribute to this energy transition, but also to profoundly transform its economy and as a contribution to the development of humanity. This presentation will analyze some of the technologies with high potential to carry out this transition, and the potential that Chile has to be an international benchmark in this area. They are closely linked to technological revolutions that produce profound social and economic changes, and that in general have brought well-being to humanity.
