TC 5 co-sponsors the Asian Conference on Energy, Power, and Transportation Electrification and CPERE, produces technical podcasts and webinars on the latest sustainable energy systems topics, supports ECCE by organizing special sessions and providing volunteers to manage the review of papers, supports PELS initiatives, and works with the Power Sources Manufacturers Association to organize special sessions for APEC.

TC 5 works on the following:

  • IEEE Conference on Power Electronics and Renewable Energy (CPERE): This conference is typically held in the Gulf/Middle East region and has a thematic focus on power electronics and renewable energy applications. Student travel support is also granted annually to support those attending CPERE.
  • IEEE International Symposium on Power Electronics for Distributed Generation Systems (PEDG): This symposium is generally held in June each year. Three best paper awards and some student travel support are granted annually to support those attending PEDG.
  • IEEE PELS Sustainable Energy Systems Technical Achievement Award: TC 5 administers this award to recognize and honor individuals who have contributed to sustained and significant scholarly and original technical and scientific contributions towards the advancement of power electronics in sustainable energy systems.
  • PELS Publications: TC 5 occasionally proposes calls for papers and organizes guest editorial boards for different PELS publications in the areas of sustainable energy systems.
  • Traveling Lecturer Program: This program facilitates lectures by eminent and emerging members of the profession at host institutions and local Chapter or Section events who broadly disperse knowledge and increase interaction between PELS members.
