In Memoriam Prof. Bob Lorenz
To: All WEMPEC Friends, Alumni, and Past Visitors
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Prof. Lorenz passed away peacefully this past Sunday, Jan. 27, in the presence of his loving family. After putting up a valiant fight against cancer for more than a year, his health worsened rapidly late last week, resulting in his admission into hospice care. It is hard to find words to express the deep sorrow that we feel at the loss of such a towering and inspirational figure in our WEMPEC faculty for the last 35 years. We will miss him greatly, but we will strive to carry on his vision of WEMPEC technical excellence and community that he exemplified every day that he was with us.
Prof. Lorenz’s family and the WEMPEC faculty express our sincere gratitude to all of you for the support that you provided to him throughout this past year. It was a great source of comfort and strength for him that inspired him to strive so hard to continue working with his students right up to the middle of last week, a day before he was admitted into hospice care.
