Diversity Photo Contest for PELS Day

PELS DAY

Diversity Photo Contest for PELS day

The Power Electronics Society has made a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion [DEI] in philosophy and practice throughout its organization and programming. During the PELS Day celebration, PELS Chapters are invited to participate in the Diversity Photo Contest. The theme of the contest is ‘show us what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean to your chapter’.

“Diversity is the presence of difference within a given setting. Inclusion is about [people] with different identities feeling and/or being valued, leveraged and welcomed within a given setting. Equity is an approach that ensures everyone access to the same opportunities. Equity recognizes that advantages and barriers exist, and that, as a result, we all don’t all start from the same place.” To learn more about the difference between these three and for exercises on how to think through each facet, check out the full article here.

Some reflection questions:

●             How does my chapter celebrate and encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion?

●             What diversity traits does my chapter exhibit?

●             A chapter can be diverse without being equitable. Does everybody have the opportunity to fully participate in my chapter?

●             A chapter can be diverse without being inclusive. Does everybody feel welcomed and valued in my chapter?

Objective:

The primary aim of this contest is to promote IEEE PELS, increase branding, increase member engagement, and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion in PELS Chapters.
