PELS Students and Young Professionals Reception at APEC - 2015
The first few years after graduation from university can be challenging for young professionals. Employment searches, new jobs, professional growth, career development, and life status changes are common experiences for many recent graduates. Going through these challenges can be daunting but IEEE members never have to go through these experiences alone or uninformed.
IEEE Young Professionals (formerly Graduates of the Last Decade, GOLD) was created in 1996 as a membership program to help students transition to young professionals within the larger IEEE community. IEEE student members are automatically added to the Young Professionals community as they graduate. IEEE Young Professionals is a vibrant community of engineers, scientists, and technical experts with member representation across the globe and throughout IEEE societies.
IEEE PELS hosts a variety of events geared to helping young professional members get connected in the power electronics community. Special access receptions and dinners, mentoring, and other unique growth opportunities are avaiable for PELS young professional members.
Latest News & Upcoming Conferences/Events
- EPE (ECCE EUROPE) - September 2015, Switzerland
The EPE'15 ECCE Europe conference will be hosted by CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Founded in 1954, laboratory sits astride the Franco-Swiss border near Geneva. It was one of Europe's first joint ventures and now has 21 member states. At CERN, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. Protons and lead ions are collided at close to the speed of light, giving the physicists clues about how the particles interact and providing insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Particle physicists and their accelerators have for decades required the design, development, construction, control and operation of high precision power converters.

- ECCE North America - September 2015, Canada
The Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition was first held in 2009. It was and is a collaborative effort between two societies within the IEEE: The Power Electronics Society (PELS) and the Industrial Power Conversion Systems Department (IPCSD) of the Industry Application Society (IAS).
The motivation for creating yet another conference came from the feeling that the technology and innovations activities in energy conversion − while having burgeoned and blossomed as they were served faithfully by the two societies − has evolved to be too cumbersome to adequately serve the energy conversion community within the confines of the existing conferences of the two societies. This is partly due to the many disparate conferences which cover the area but are of a more regional nature. Over the past 7 years, this vision has been brought to bear successfully by teams of dedicated volunteers and participants. ECCE has grown in attendance from 889 in 2009 to 1312 in 2013. ECCE has become the premier global conference covering topics in energy conversion from electric machines, power electronics, drives, devices and applications existing and emergent. As we celebrate the 7th year of ECCE in Montreal, we invite you to come join the growing, global family of energy conversion enthusiasts.

- ICPE 2015 (ECCE ASIA) - Young Researchers' Reception
At the 2015 Energy Conversion Congress & Exposition Asia/International Conference on Power Electronics (ECCE-Asia/ICPE) held in Seoul, South Korea, students and young professionals from all parts of the world came together to share their experiences in power electronics. On June 2, the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and Korean Institute of Power Electronics (KIPE) co-sponsored a Young Researcher Activity and Networking Dinner. The events were organized by Prof. Rae-Young Kim (Hanyang University, Korea) as the lead organizer and Prof. Sang-Shin Kwak (Chungang University, Korea), Prof. Honnyong Cha (Kyungpook University, Korea) , and Prof. Katherine Kim (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Korea), as supporting organizers.
The event kicked off with a greeting from Prof. Braham Ferreira (Delft University of Technology), current PELS President, and Prof. Seung-Ki Sul (Seoul National University), current KIPE President, emphasizing the importance of active young members to the future of the power electronics field and community. During the Young Researcher Activity, students from various countries presented posters about their school, research lab, lab culture, research projects, and general experiences. Students represented schools from Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, U.S., and Denmark. Over 70 attendees participated in the activity and talked with students from the represented schools while networking and enjoying a reception.
