Babak Fahimi (S’96, M’00, SM’02) received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in electrical engineering with highest honors from University of Tehran, Iran in 1991 and 1993 respectively. During 1993-1995, he was a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Scholarship program) scholar at Institute for Electric Machinery in Technical University of Aachen, Germany. In 1999 he received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University with emphasis on power electronics and motor drives. After graduation, he joined Electro Standards Laboratories Inc., Cranston, RI, as a research scientist and later became a program manager leading several motor drive related projects. In June 2002, he joined Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla where he currently conducts research and teaching in the area of power electronics and motor drives. His areas of interest include design and digital control of adjustable speed motor drives, automotive energy systems, and design and modeling of power electronics based systems.
Dr. Fahimi has published over 50 papers in various IEEE journals and conferences. He holds one US patent and has several pending. He is also a contributor to encyclopedia of Electrical and Electronics Engineering published by John Wiley and Sons, Inc. Dr. Fahimi is an associate editor for transactions on power electronics and vehicular technologies as well as the chairman of the standards subcommittee in the IAS electric machinery committee. He has given numerous seminars and short courses on his subject of research over the past few years.
